Opportunities for Corporate Involvement
The primary function of the publisher-partner will be to provide career expertise support to the publishing apprentices. This will take place through a three-step distance learning mini-workshop designed in cooperation with one representative from each main department within the publishing house (editorial, publicity, marketing, art and design, sales and distribution).
Step 1: Pre-visit: The representative meets with the students and discusses his/her background and job in detail. Students will present their work and ideas to the representative who will give them feedback.
Step 2: The Visit: The representative hosts the students for an hour-long meeting with other members of the team. Students have an opportunity to see what the representative does on a daily basis, and how specific duties fit into the larger scheme.
Step 3: Post-Visit: Students reflect on their experience, revise their work and ideas based on feedback and devise a specific plan for moving forward. Students complete a formal assessment that demonstrates the acquisition of new knowledge.
